Gardika Gigih recently got himself a beautiful 1965 Yamaha U1D upright piano which he named Michiko. Last Friday night in Studio Mahati, he gave a performance which was meant as a proper introduction of the piano to the public for the first time. In front of an intimate audience of only about 20 people, for about two hours Gigih played some of his repertoire and told stories behind his compositions and how he found Michiko (or rather, how she found him). It was a delightful, soothing evening.
